About Zahra

I'm Zahra Ciardi

an AHPRA-registered psychologist and the founder of Ascendant Bali.

My work sits at the intersection of clinical rigour and lived experience, built from more than a decade in trauma treatment, addiction, and mental health rehabilitation, and shaped just as much by my own path to becoming the person who could build this.

My Story

I was born in Syria to Kuwaiti parents. My family's path to Australia went through Iran first. Growing up between those worlds meant constant assimilation, trying to belong somewhere I wasn't quite from, and carrying the tension of feeling torn between cultures.

That early experience of rebuilding a life, more than once, shaped how I think about identity, resilience, and what it takes to move beyond survival into something more deliberate.

How I work

Before Ascendant Bali, I watched capable people move between appointments and treatment approaches without anything really shifting. Clients were exhausted, cycling through treatments that weren't built for real transformation.
The system I trained in is often slow and fragmented. Built to manage symptoms, not address what's underneath them.
I became convinced there had to be a better way, one that didn't split someone's healing across providers who never spoke to each other.
I was once the sceptic. Then Bali changed everything. What started as my own search for answers, ones conventional medicine couldn't give me, became the foundation for something bigger.
I found what Western psychology alone had missed: the power of holistic care. I truly believe psychological treatment becomes more effective when the whole person is supported, mind, body, and nervous system together.
That understanding is the foundation of everything Ascendant Bali does.

Why Ascendant Bali Exists

My areas of focus are trauma, addiction, burnout, chronic stress, and the psychological patterns that come with overachievement. I'm especially interested in what high performers carry quietly: how external success can mask unresolved trauma, compulsive behaviours, emotional disconnection, and an identity built almost entirely around achievement.

Ascendant Bali exists because I believe meaningful recovery becomes possible when people get the right treatment, in the right environment, with a level of care built around them as an individual, not around a program template. That challenges a lot of one-size-fits-all thinking in mental healthcare, and I'm not interested in softening that position.

Testimonials

“Zahra was an incredible podcast guest. She brought a rare combination of high integrity, a compelling personal story, and deep clinical knowledge. Two years on, people still tell me how much they enjoyed that conversation, especially the way she wove her own story together with real clinical insight. I won't hesitate to work with Zahra in the future.”

“Zahra spoke to my audience on EMDR, nervous system regulation, and DBT frameworks, and the response was immediate. She has a real skill for making dense material easy to digest, without ever oversimplifying it. We’ve since partnered on running short programs together and she brings the same level of care and rigour to that collaboration as she does to a stage. She’s someone I’d recommend without hesitation, both as a speaker and as someone to build something with.”

“Zahra joined me on The MOOD Podcast to talk about the mind behind creative work, and it became one of the most valuable conversations I've hosted. She has a way of taking what is heavy and hidden - trauma, limiting beliefs, the quiet machinery of the high achiever - and opening it up with a clarity that is both clinical and deeply human. My audience of photographers and artists came away with language for what holds them back and practical ways to move through it. Zahra brings lived experience alongside real expertise, and you feel it in every answer she gives. I'd welcome her back in a heartbeat.”
